In Caribbean area The Trinidad and Tobago IVF & Fertility Centre has been awarded international accreditation approval following a recent inspection by a team of experts from the UK’s QHA Trent, which provides international health care inspections.

This is the first time a three-year accreditation approval of this length has been granted internationally to a healthcare institution in the Caribbean area.

The accreditation certifies the Fertility Centre’s quality upto the mark as per highest international standards as the inspection was conducted in accordance with the standards of ISQua, the International Society for Quality in Healthcare.

As the only health care institution in the country with QHA’s International accreditation, the Centre was awarded the accreditation approval following inspection of its patient care, success rates, infection control, confidentiality, quality control, staff training and business and financial management.

The inspectors found the Centre for strong effective leadership, organisational skills, good patient care by the well skilled nursing team, and high standard operating protocols for all procedures, training, quality assurance and quality control.

The unit was also highly commended on its “open and honest culture and low multiple birth rates” and its “well-integrated” counselling service.

Dr. Catherine Minto-Bain, Medical Director and Consultant Gynaecologist, at the clinic said the accreditation proves that the highest standards of quality healthcare can be achieved in T&T.

Dr. Catherine Minto-Bain, said “People have an impression that the quality of healthcare in T&T is low and cannot be improved. We have shown that with determination and hard work, the very highest standards are achievable here in T&T.

When creating babies with assisted reproductive technology, nothing but the best is acceptable. We are delighted with our top rating, showing that we are substantially better than many Caribbean, North American and UK fertility centres.”

QHA inspector and top UK embryologist, Rachel Cutting said the accreditation approval is an immense achievement for the Fertility Centre, adding that they should be proud of their outstanding inspection.
